Senior Civil Engineer - Park Ridge, IL or Naperville, IL

­Position Summary

Terra Consulting Group, LLC is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team. This individual will be skilled in designing multi-acre retail, commercial, industrial and/or residential development with due diligence, permitting and limited contract administration experience. As a Senior Civil Engineer, you will design stormwater management, floodplain, grading and utility, paving and roads, and sewer and water systems. Responsibilities will include producing documentation that incorporates vendor-supplied designs into final Terra work product; planning, preparing reports and conducting calculations that include storm water analysis, quantity estimates, cost opinions and institutional design constraints.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide client support and create quality deliverables and technical reports as well as address client questions regarding technical aspects of the project

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects

  • Apply Terra standards and template utilization, enhancing existing templates or creating new ones as needed

  • Research, understand and apply City, State and Federal codes

  • Estimate project costs, including materials, equipment and labor

  • Communicate tasks and schedule and coordinate project assignments with project team

  • Execute assigned tasks accurately, on schedule and within budget

  • Prepare proposals for technical engineering portions of projects

  • Understand all contracted scope of work and monitor/process additional work authorizations when requested by client or required for project completion

  • Visit sites as required

  • Mentor and train subordinate CAD Technicians and Junior Engineers

  • Perform Quality Control Reviews of plans and reports before issuance

  • Work within Assistant Project Manager role to support Project Manager or manage projects directly where appropriate

  • Coordinate, monitor and review work performed by subconsultants

  • Provide technical support for customers and support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource

  • Promote the reputation of the company through the technical quality of his/her work and positive interactions in meetings and other interactions

  • Represent Terra professionally at all project-related meetings and inspections. Understand configuration of equipment

  • Best knowledge in the Terra office of the client’s equipment and their standards for equipment

  • Reports to and receives guidance from the Civil Department Manager. May also receive direction/need coordination with other Department Heads or Project Managers in multi-disciplined projects

  • Supervises engineers and CAD Technicians either full-time or a project-by-project basis

  • Technical expertise and leadership provided across the organization

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent and PA Professional Engineer’s License

Experience

  • Minimum ten (10) years’ progressive experience

  • Experience with subdivision and land development projects

  • Experience with design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Hydrologic/Hydraulic design software

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Fluency with Micro Soft Office Suite

  • Demonstrated background in plan production and project execution

  • CEU completion annually, as required by PE licensure

  • Land management experience with repeated build out needed

  • Construction experience helpful

  • Strong knowledge of the technical aspects of the civil engineering practice

  • Thorough knowledge of all codes applicable to his/her discipline

  • Civil 3D required. GIS optional

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving

  • Strong client relationship management skills including proposal writing and negotiations

  • Leadership and mentoring

  • Project and resource management

  • Problem-solving/analysis

  • Communication proficiency with team members and clients

  • Ability to build relationships and interact with review agencies

  • Financial management to budget and goals/objectives

  • Specialized software knowledge, stormwater retention knowledge, or permitting for specific entities
