Project Development Engineer - Omaha/Atlanta/Chicago

eX² Technology is privately held, project-based company specializing in designing, building, maintaining and commercializing telecommunications networks (fiber and wireless), intelligent transportation systems and smart city applications. We are searching for an ambitious individual who is experienced in fiber and wireless telecommunications, smart city or intelligent transportation system projects to fill the position of Project Development Engineer. This individual will develop technical solutions with detailed technical writing and cost estimates for the purpose of capturing new business and responding to requests for proposals (RFPs). This individual will work closely with Sales, Marketing, Estimating and other Engineering staff within the Project Development group to develop innovative, accurate and bid-winning solutions to drive growth at our exciting and entrepreneurial-spirited organization.
This position involves sales engineering and proposal development to support new sales and business development opportunities. Our ideal candidate will be innovative, flexible and willing to tackle new ideas and challenges. We are looking for someone who is dedicated to hard work, driven by the game and motivated to win! This position is eligible for a commission split reserved specifically for the capture team.
Roles & Responsibilities
Complete high-level solutions and designs, estimates, technical writing and cost reviews for Telecommunications, Smart City and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects.
High-level design of telecommunications systems, including FTTx, fiber optic route designs, general networking equipment, fiber optic network communications equipment, wireless network communications equipment, communications power and battery backup systems, etc.
High-level design of Intelligent Transportation Systems, including roadway sensors, roadway cameras and license plate systems, messaging signs, roadway weather stations, parking detection systems, traffic speed and detection systems, etc.
Review of bid and proposal documents.
Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings with customers to establish design and determine bid criteria.
Define equipment, quantity take-offs and compile Bill of Materials.
Work with CAD/GIS department to produce drawings and design diagrams.
Write compelling proposal content and technical writing, including process, approach and implementation plans.
Develop project schedules.
Attend and provide technical presentations to potential customers in support of sales efforts.
Continuously update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks and participating in professional organizations.

Skills & Experience
General interest in technology.
Experience in presenting to potential customers and clients.
Knowledge of fiber optics and telecommunications systems (Ethernet, DMVM, FTTH, SONET, etc.).
Knowledge of Telecommunications outside and inside plant infrastructure design.
Knowledge of ITS applications and systems (RWIS, microwave detectors, loop detectors, CCTV cameras, DMS signs, LPR cameras).
Knowledge of Smart City applications and systems (smart parking, public safety CCTV, public address systems, mass notification systems, traffic monitoring, public Wi-Fi, smart LED lighting).
Must have demonstrated excellent people skills.
Must have demonstrated excellent communications skills (written and verbal).
Must have demonstrated excellent organizational skills and be detailed oriented.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft office products, including MS Visio, MS Project, MS Excel and SharePoint.
Knowledge of construction estimating, budgeting, project schedule and contracts desirable, but not required.
Qualification & Education
The ideal candidate should have a degree in a technical field such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or related scientific field of study.

While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit; use hand and fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The incumbent is required to walk on potential construction sites in rough terrain and climb ladders and facilities under construction. The incumbent is occasionally required to stand for long periods of time. The incumbent may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent may split time between work in a semi-quiet office environment and on customer sites, where there is moderate to occasional great noise levels.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret engineering and construction drawings and specifications, common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and other documents. Communicates effectively in both oral and written English technical language, both in interpreting requirements. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
